To Our Deer Run Families,
As the classrooms quiet and the school year comes to an end, we hope you will take a moment to reflect on all that this year has held and all that has been accomplished. It has been a year filled with growth, resilience, and achievement. Together, we have navigated challenges and celebrated successes. We know that everyone is looking forward to a period of rest and rejuvenation—a welcome break from the routines of the school year.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the many volunteers who support our school community. Whether accompanying classes on field trips, reading alongside students, or organizing and fundraising for special events, your time, energy, and commitment make a meaningful difference in the experiences we can offer our students. It truly takes a village, and the Deer Run village is simply the best!
As summer break begins, we hope it brings opportunities for outdoor adventures and joyful moments with family and friends. Remember that every summer has a story… we hope you enjoy yours!

Staffing Updates
We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and share a few staffing updates within our school community.
We extend our appreciation to our temporary teaching staff who have contributed to our students’ learning this year. Ms. Elaine Claerhout will be moving to Braeside School, and Ms. Alisa Zhang will be joining Connaught School. We thank them for their dedication and wish them continued success in their new roles.
We also recognize our temporary Educational Assistants, Heather Mack and Kiera McCullen, who will be transitioning to other roles within the CBE. Their support for students and staff has been greatly valued, and we wish them all the best in their future positions.
Finally, we would like to celebrate two remarkable members of our staff as they conclude their careers in education. Ms. Lauren Purkiss and Ms. Susan Michaud are retiring after years of dedicated service to students and the school community. Their commitment, care, and impact will be felt for years to come. We wish them both a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement.
Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant
We are pleased to inform you that our school has been allocated 1 additional teaching position for the 2026-27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant.
This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.
This funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.
This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:
- The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
- Projected enrolment and class organization
- School programming and grade configuration
Our goal is to ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.
Report Cards
Families will be able to view online student report cards for kindergarten to Grade 12 from June 25 – July 31, 2026. Report Cards can be accessed through your MyCBE account.
