One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
The purpose of this group is to facilitate communication between the school and parents on matters of educational interest.
Our School Council has been instrumental in supporting our school learning community through fundraising activities and operating in an advisory capacity. It also serves as a vehicle for community input and shared decision-making. The School Council is informed regularly about school events and in their advisory role, provides the school’s administration and leadership team with feedback and suggestions. All parents and legal guardians of students registered at Deer Run School are members of the school council and are welcome to attend our monthly meetings. Free babysitting is provided.
