Dear Families,
What a fantastic start to a busy month! We have relaxed our hat rule, and students are now welcome to wear holiday hats, headgear, and toques in the school. Many students and staff participated in Winter Character Day, and the excitement in the building was palpable. More fun is still to come this week!
Brrr… winter has arrived! Please remember that students will continue to be outside throughout the day for recess and some learning periods. All students need to come prepared with a winter jacket, mittens or gloves, boots, and a hat or toque. If you need support in accessing winter gear for your child, please email deerrun@cbe.ab.ca.
As outlined in the message sent on Friday, December 5, 2025, Alberta Health Services has placed Deer Run School on outbreak status due to a high incidence of respiratory illness. Over the weekend, our school underwent enhanced cleaning and sanitizing. We would like to remind families of the following:
• Students should stay home if they are unwell
• Please speak with your child about hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
• Students who arrive at school unwell, or who begin to feel unwell during the day, will be sent home and must be picked up as soon as possible
• Students should not return to school until they have been fever- and vomiting-free for 48 hours
It is imperative that ALL absences are reported when your student will be away. You can email deerrun@cbe.ab.ca or call the attendance line at 403-777-6840. Please remember to include the reason for the absence.

School Fees
All PowerSchool accounts have been updated with school fees. If your child stays for lunch, you must register for Lunch Supervision. Please do not leave your account unmonitored, as unpaid fees may eventually be sent to collections. If you feel you qualify for financial support, fee waivers can be accessed through your PowerSchool account. If you do not yet have a PowerSchool account, now is the time to set one up. These accounts will follow your child until they graduate from CBE or transfer to a new school division.
Deer Run Giving Tree
Thank you to those who have already donated gift cards for the Giving Tree. These will be used to support families in need this season. If you are planning to donate, we will continue accepting $25 gift cards until Friday, December 12, 2025.
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch
December 18 is Edo Fun Lunch. All lunches can be ordered at www.healthyhunger.ca. Orders must be placed by December 12, 2025.

• December 9 – Mad About Plaid Day (dress in plaid patterns)
• December 11 – Holiday Hair Don’t Care (be creative!)
• December 16 – Wrap Up with Holiday Cheer (wear lights, sparkles, bows, ribbon, headbands, fancy hats, etc.)
• December 19 – PJ Day
