Dear Deer Run Families,
Dear Families,
Alien In-Line Skating will be onsite and offering lessons for all Deer Run students from October 5-20, 2026. Students must return their signed permission forms in order to participate.
Alien In-Line Skating will provide skates and protective equipment for all students. However, students are encouraged to bring and wear their own helmets, especially given the recent cases of lice in our school. If your child does not have a helmet, one will be provided along with a protective hair covering.
Thank you to our School Council for covering the cost of this opportunity for all students!
World Teachers' Day - October 5
October 5 is World Teachers' Day! More than anything, teachers value words of appreciation. The staff at Deer Run School put their hearts and souls into the work they do each day.
If you can find the time to send a quick note or email of appreciation to your child's teacher, we would be very grateful.
Shawna and Krista
Safety Over Convenience
Please help keep our students safe and model the following expectations:
- Student pick-up and drop-off are not permitted in the staff parking lot. Street parking and the Community Centre parking lot are available during these times.
- Students should cross the street only at marked crosswalks and under the direction of the School Safety Patrols.
- Watch your speed! The posted speed limit in all Playground Zones is 30 km/h. For the safety of our students, we ask that you adhere to this limit.
Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy
CBE students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during instructional time unless their use has been approved by the teacher for learning activities, health and medical needs, or to support specialized learning needs.
If a student needs to call home for any reason, a landline phone is available in the office. If families need to contact a student during the school day, all communication must go through the office.

Picture Retake Day
October 22, 2026 is Picture Retake Day.
All proofs were sent home with students last week. Please ensure your child knows if you would like them to have their picture retaken.
October 19, 2026 - School Conferences (Parent-Teacher Interviews)
October 19 is a non-instructional day for students due to the Alberta Referendum. Deer Run School will be holding School Conferences on this day.
This is an opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and discuss their learning, progress, and ways you can support them at home.
You can book appointments with your child's teacher(s) through your MyCBE account. If you do not have an account, you can create one at: https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/

On October 19, both in-person and online appointment options are available to accommodate families' schedules:

- 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Online conferences only
See our Parent-Teacher Conference page for booking instructions.
Walking Field Trips
The CBE values the educational benefits of field trips. Walking field trips close to our school can complement classroom learning by providing students with opportunities to explore and learn from their local community.
Please be advised that the process for trips within walking distance of the school has been simplified, excluding restricted activities such as swimming. Parents/guardians are no longer required to complete a consent form for class trips that are within walking distance of the school, such as visits to a local park. Appropriate walking distances are determined by the Principal and may vary depending on the age of the students.
Teachers will provide at least 48 hours' notice when planning a trip to a local site. Notification will be sent by email through SchoolMessenger.
As with any field trip, we want to inform you about some common hazards associated with walking trips. Please note that this list may not include all potential hazards for a given trip:
- Slips, trips, and falls
- Becoming separated from the group
- Street crossings
- Pre-existing medical conditions and/or allergies
- Exposure to infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19, SARS, MERS, influenza)
If you have any questions regarding walking field trips, please contact your child's teacher or a member of the school administration team.
