This Week at Deer Run

Dear Families,

Our time with Alien In-Line Skating is coming to an end. It is always amazing to see the growth and progress students make in just a few short lessons. The ear-to-ear smiles say it all!

We would like to thank the Deer Run School Council for covering the cost of this activity for all students. The cost of this program was approximately $22 per student. Fundraising through school initiatives and funds received from casinos allow School Council to provide opportunities such as this at no cost to families.

School Council recently learned that they will not receive funding from their next casino until the spring of 2028. This means the funds currently available will need to last for the next 18 to 24 months. As a result, you may notice that some activities and field trips will require a family contribution. Charges will be added to your MyCBE account throughout the school year.

As the year progresses, there will be several fundraising opportunities where we will need your support to help keep costs as low as possible for families. Support can take many forms, including financial contributions, sharing information with friends and family, or volunteering your time. It truly takes a village, and right now, our village needs you.

School Council is currently looking to fill the following volunteer positions:

  • Secretary – Attend School Council meetings and record meeting minutes.
  • Popcorn Poppers – Assist with monthly Popcorn Days (dates are available on the Deer Run School website).

If you are experiencing difficulty paying school fees, fee waivers may be available to assist you.

Central Fee Waiver

Central fees include:

  • Lunch supervision
  • Transportation
  • Student supplies
  • Music instrument rental fees

School Fee Waiver

School fees cover course fees, activities, and field trips.

Starting this year, families must first apply for a Central Fee Waiver before being considered for a school-based fee waiver. This application will be used as part of the review process for waiving school-based fees.

To begin the process, click the link below and follow the instructions for the Central Fee Waiver application. This information helps the Deer Run School office team better understand any economic or other barriers your family may be facing.

Request a Fee Waiver

Once you receive an email confirming completion of the central review process, please contact Shawna Weir to discuss which school fees you are requesting to have waived.

We understand that affordability can be a challenge, and we remain committed to providing every student with a high-quality education, regardless of their family's ability to pay fees. ister with Healthy Hunger (if you haven’t already) at: https://healthyhunger.ca/parent-help.
