Hello Deer Run Families,
We are excited to welcome both new and returning families to Deer Run. The first week of school is now complete, and everything went very smoothly. The only challenge we faced was the smoke that covered the city during the first couple of days. Because of poor air quality, students stayed indoors for recess periods, but by the end of the week, it was wonderful to see them laughing and playing outside together.
On Friday, we enjoyed our Welcome Back Assembly. We introduced all staff and new students, reviewed outdoor expectations, and ended with a fun whole-school dance party!
We are looking forward to another year of growth, learning, and community with our students and families. Please remember to check our website regularly for updates and information: https://deerrun.cbe.ab.ca/.
Warmly,
Shawna, Krista, and the Deer Run Team
Reminders and Updates For the 2025-2026 School Year
Designate a Meeting Place
- To ensure a safe and smooth pickups at the end of the day, please set a designated meeting spot with your child(ren).
- Meeting spots should not be in the school parking lot, which is off-limits to parents and students.
- Kindergarten teachers will remain with students until a parent arrives. If you are late, students will be brought to the office.
- If a student does not see their parent after five minutes, they have been instructed to come to the office for assistance.
- If you know you will be late, please call the office directly, as teachers do not check email during the day.
Label Everything
Every year, thousands of dollars’ worth of clothing and belongings are donated because they go unclaimed. Please label all items with first and last names so we can return them quickly.
Choose Safety Over Convenience
- For everyone’s safety, please do not cut through the west parking lot. It is for staff only.
- Adults are asked to model safe behaviours for students. Please use crosswalks instead of jaywalking. Not only is jaywalking unsafe and illegal, but it also sends the wrong message about road safety.
- Our School Patrols will be trained and ready to begin at the end of September.
Lunch
- Please pack any utensils your child may need, as the school does not provide them.
- Students should bring a garbage-free lunch. We have removed garbage cans from the lunchroom after noticing large amounts of perfectly good food being thrown away last year. Working with your child to pack lunches helps ensure they bring food they enjoy and will eat.
Dogs on School Grounds
For safety reasons, dogs are not permitted on school property, regardless of size. This is a City of Calgary Bylaw. If you walk your child to school with a dog, please say goodbye at the edge of school property.
Parents/Guardians in the School
For safety and security, all visitors must enter through the front doors and sign in if going beyond the office. Please do not accompany your child to their classroom door. If your child needs extra support transitioning into class, staff will be there to help.
