Dear Deer Run Families,

It is hard to believe that we are already nearing the end of September! As cooler mornings arrive, many students are coming to school wearing light jackets and sweaters. With warmer temperatures in the afternoon, students often remove these extra layers during the day. Unfortunately, many clothing items are being left behind on and around the playground and are not making their way back to their owners. We kindly ask families to label all student belongings with both first and last names so we can help reunite lost items with their owners.

Thank you to all the families who were able to attend our Terry Fox Run and Family BBQ. It was wonderful to see such a fantastic turnout! A huge thank you to Ashley Baxter and the team at the Deer Run Community Centre for supplying, grilling, and serving hot dogs, chips, and all the fixings. We greatly appreciate the time and effort that went into making this event such a success. Thank you as well to the Deer Run School Council for arranging the Kona Ice truck and treating students to delicious shaved ice. We are fortunate to be part of such a supportive and caring school community.

You may have noticed that Ms. Krista has been away over the past few weeks. We would like to thank Edie Reichardt, retired CBE administrator, for stepping in during her absence. We are pleased to share that Ms. Krista will return to Deer Run on Thursday, October 1.

Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Wednesday, September 30, 2026, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour residential school Survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home. Please remember that schools will be closed on September 30.

All students and their families are invited to attend our Deer Run School Orange Shirt Day Assembly on Tuesday, September 29 at 10:00 a.m. Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt, or something orange, to school that day as a symbol of learning, reflection, and reconciliation.

Popcorn Day

Tuesday, September 29, will mark our first Popcorn Day of the school year. All popcorn orders and payments must be submitted by 9:00 a.m. Thank you in advance to our wonderful volunteers who will spend the morning popping and preparing this special treat for students.

MyCBE Accounts

Thank you to all families who have completed the required forms through their MyCBE accounts. Our office staff has been busy processing the demographic information submitted so far.

Currently, approximately 25% of families still need to complete these online forms. It is important that we have current and accurate information for every student. If you have not yet completed your forms, please do so as soon as possible.

Student Health Plan Forms

Earlier this month, Student Health Plan forms were emailed to families. It is essential that schools have the most up-to-date medical information for all students.

If your child has a medical condition that the school should be aware of, please complete and return the required forms as soon as possible. If you require a paper copy, please contact us at deerrun@cbe.ab.ca.
