Thank You to School Council

Thanks to our amazing School Council, 47 new Chromebooks are now in circulation at Deer Run! These devices will further enhance the education of our students. As always, we appreciate the hard work and dedication of our School Council.

Cell Phone Policy

Today we had an assembly at Deer Run. One of the things that we reiterated with students was our Cell Phone (and other electronic policy) at the school. Our updated Digital Citizenship Policy for 2023-2024 will be posted on our website soon but for now, here are some important notes:

• All cell phones and other electronics that can access the Internet need to be kept in backpacks and on airplane mode. They can also be kept in the office in the tech basket.
• Cell phones and other electronics that can access the Internet cannot be used during the lunch period.
• All communication at school needs to be done through the office or classroom, with adult permission.
• Students are not allowed to use their phones or other personal devices to take pictures while at school. 
• Use of school technology needs to be done under the supervision of a teacher or staff member and be for learning purposes.

Birthday Treats

Due to a few different reasons (allergies, intolerances, sanitary concerns) we ask that food is not sent to school to be shared with other students. If you would like to send something with your student to be shared for a special event such as a birthday, we ask that you send non-edible items such as pencils, erasers, etc.

Meet the Teacher Welcome Picnic

Just as a reminder, we will be hosting a Meet the Teacher Welcome Picnic on Thursday Sept. 21 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

Non-Instruction Day – Friday Sept. 22

As you know, Friday is a Non-Instructional Day with no students at school. Teachers will be using some of this time to reach out to families of students with IPP’s to collaborate with parents/guardians in the process of building individualized goals from students.

Please Return Forms

An information package containing medical, volunteer, and important information has been sent home with your student. Please return them to the school as soon as possible.

Dogs

MyCBE Account

This is a reminder to all parents/guardians to check your MyCBE account regularly. If you don’t have an account, please create one. A MyCBE account allows parents to:

• view their children’s academic information (schedule, grades and attendance)
• view their children’s learning activities using Brightspace by D2L
• register for transportation and noon supervision
• pay fees and request fee waivers
• book school conferences

Lunch Program

All parents and guardians should register for our lunch program through their MyCBE account if their student is eating lunch at school. When sending lunches to school with students, please keep in mind that we don’t provide microwaves, hot water, or cutlery.

Staff Parking Lot

Please remember that the staff parking lot should not be used for picking up or dropping off students. Also, please walk around the parking lot using the sidewalks or on the field.

Attendance Reminders

If your student is going to be away for any reason, we kindly ask that you:

• Call the school and leave a message on the attendance line indicating your student’s name, homeroom teacher, the date, and reason for the absence.

OR

• Email your student’s teacher AND deerrun@cbe.ab.ca giving the same information.

Any student arriving after 8:18 am will be marked late. Collectively as a staff, we are committed to having engaging learning activities ready to begin right at 8:18 am. Arriving late can be disruptive to the class and get a student’s day off to a rough start. We thank you for your support with this.
